hands down, this has by far been my weirdest day in korea. please, let me recap this splendid friday for you: i was awoken bright and early by three wide-faced korean mormons who had come to my apartment to spread the good word of the lord. they were each adorned in an outfit that resembled the walmart clearance aisle and stared aimlessly at me. needles to say, i said "no thank you" in korean and returned to meet my own god via my dreams. got me to thinking though, at least mormons in america wear suites... american mormons-1 /// korean mormons-0.
shortly after being awoken my friend john whisked me out to dinner and afterwards, in a soju induced stupor, showed me all the classy establishments geumchon has to offer. he took me to a place that i now refer to as 'whore ally' which is code for "message." apparently if a building has a spiny barber shop sign it means you can render the services of a fine korean woman for about 70,000 won. while john was showing me around i was approached by an incredibly old korean woman who kept trying to speak to me in korean, but unfortunately my korean isn't so hot. afterwards i asked john what she was saying and it turns out she was trying to get me to come to her place to get a little hot and heavy. AIDS buffet anyone???
lastly, on the same night, i discovered the magic of loteria (korean mcdonalds). i was excited to get an ice cream at 2am after hitting the soju pretty hard but it turns out the girl working the counter was in such a hysterical state and crying non-stop that she was unable to take my order and told us in korean that they were closed to "recount time" whatever the hell that means.
on a side note, my classes are going well. i was approached by the father of one of my younger students and he said that since his daughter had said such good things about me that he was going to enroll his older daughter in our school. score! .... it;s currently cheusok (korean thanksgiving) so i have the next couple of days off. that's pretty rad and all but i wish i had the foresight to stock up on groceries before hand. i have food to last, but it'll be slim pick'ns till then.
