touch down!

what once seemed a chimerical and distant date is finally upon me. i have arrived safely in Korea via a 22 hour long trip, and my ankles/feet have swollen to a somewhat grotesque size. after consulting the 24 hour on call doctor formally known as Dr. Google, i found out this is a common issue with people who fly long distances and that things should be back to normal in a couple of days.

i really like Korea so far... it's a beautiful country and the people are of a short jovial nature. i went to Pagoda today (school i am teaching at) and met with the students i will be teaching. i'm excited to get the ball rolling on things, but i would be lying if i didn't say that i was somewhat nervous about the whole the whole teaching gig. i'm not so much concerned about my teaching abilities, but a lot of the students (especially the girls) are really shy and getting them to participate can be a bit of a problem. however, this is not the case for all the children. whoever said that all asian children are well behaved has obviously never left the confides the contiguous 48 states. so please let me tell you: that out there, in this vast and mysterious world we co-inhabit, their exists some bratty Korean children.

i haven't had too much of a chance to venture into the city and explore. i have been busy with training but their is a company party tomorrow that i have to attend after work, and i'm hoping that it'll be a good chance to meet some korean people!

  1. How old are the kids you're going to teach? Make sure the school gives you some guidance on discipline and classroom management! Better to start off strict and then loosen up than to let them run wild and try to reign them in later. You could make participation part of the grade too... Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
